November 2023 DRAFT SCA Statement on Diversity and Equity
The Society for California Archaeology acknowledges a lack of diversity in our discipline. We are committed to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization, and in the field of archaeology. We strive to increase its accessibility to a broader range of participants, by promoting professional development and career advancement, and by providing opportunities in education and training. We also strive to ensure that that our members, staff, and volunteers are respected and valued regardless of their race, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender presentation, religious beliefs, physical differences, or any other factors. We want a culture of equity and justice where everyone can thrive.
We are committed to ensuring that the SCA is a safe place where the voices of all our members are included, heard, and respected. When we bring together a multitude of voices, and when we cultivate equitable opportunities for all, we are stronger, smarter, and better. We strive to create an inclusive society that provides a venue for members to seek support and mentorship in the profession; to lead community outreach; to promote ongoing dialogue and heightened awareness; and to address challenges in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in archaeological practice in California.
