Clarke Historical Museum

Ferndale Museum

Preserves and exhibits the history and heritage of this still thriving dairy community with its lovely, well-kept Victorian houses and storefronts
Features the artifacts, furniture, and other items that have survived since the town was founded and displays them in settings of the Victorian era
Also features an operating seismograph, a telephone switchboard, working crank phones, farm and logging equipment, a barber shop, and a complete blacksmith shop
Exhibits change and are thoroughly researched, clearly identified, and artfully displayed.

Open February to December, Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; June to September also open on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed in January. Docent-led school tours available by appointment

Fort Humboldt State Historic Park

Partially reconstructed outpost, built in the 1850s to settle the conflict between local Native Americans and incoming settlers
Features a historical museum with military and native displays depicting then-common events of the region
A logging museum and two operational steam engines
Most recent addition is a historic garden made up of plants that were popular and available in the mid-1850s

Fortuna Depot Museum

Contains the history of the Eel River Valley
Collections include intriguing memorabilia from railroad, farm, and war eras, including large locks, sparkplugs, and barbed wire displays

Humboldt County Historical Society

Hupa Tribal Museum

A non–profit entity of the Hoopa Valley Tribe, created to preserve, and to share, the rich culture and history of the native people of northern California
Displays one of the finest collections of Hupa, Yurok, and Karuk artifacts in northern California
Includes a fine display of local Indian basketry, ceremonial regalia, redwood dugout canoes, and tools and implements used by the Hupa, Yurok, and Karuk tribes
Location: at the Hupa Reservation on Highway 96 in Hoopa
Open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from 12 noon to 1 p.m.); open in the summer, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sue-meg State Park

Learn about the cultural history of Humboldt County at the Visitor’s Center
