    Reflections: Celebrating 60 Years

As we mark the Society for California Archaeology’s  Diamond Anniversary, we gather to reflect not only on the knowledge and insights gained through the archaeological record but on the history of our discipline itself. Much like a diamond, formed under pressure and refined over time, archaeology has undergone profound transformation over the past six decades—scientifically, intellectually, and ethically. This year’s theme speaks to two powerful facets of “Reflections”:

    1. Looking back to move forward—studying the past as a vital lens through which we understand the enduring patterns of human behavior, adaptation, and ingenuity which illuminates our understanding of pressing issues of today and shapes more resilient futures.

    2. Looking inward as a discipline—examining how archaeology has evolved, the legacies we inherit, the new paradigms we are forging, and the valuable relationships we are building between scientists and descendant communities which lend to fuller and more inclusive understanding.

The diamond, symbolizing clarity, endurance, and transformation, offers a powerful metaphor for our collective journey over the past 60 years. As we celebrate this important anniversary, we invite participants to reflect on the past, assess the present, and come together as stewards collaboratively shaping the future of archaeology.

Refunds for cancelled registrations will not be granted after February 6, 2026.  If you are unable to attend, your registration fee will be applied as a donation to the SCA.

The 2026 Silent Auction and Dinner Event will be held at the Riviera Resort & Spa in Palm Springs.

What to Expect at the Society for California Archaeology’s Premier Fundraising Event

This year, we’re excited to introduce a refreshed format for our biggest fundraiser of the year—designed to encourage more interaction, creativity, and visibility for our sponsors.

    An Event for Everyone
Every conference attendee will have a ticket to this event. With an anticipated turnout of 800+ guests, the evening promises high energy, strong engagement, and excellent exposure for sponsoring organizations.

    Sponsor Hospitality & Beverage Options
Due to hotel liability requirements, beverages will be served through a no host bar located in the pool area.  Sponsors will have a designated table or cabana to host guests and showcase their organization. Each sponsor receives two complimentary tickets to the event for use by table staff.

Sponsors are also welcome to enhance their table/cabana experience in the following ways:

    • Contract directly with the hotel’s catering team to offer a specialty item, such as a dessert or other featured treat

    • Arrange for a private bartender and hosted alcohol (e.g., margaritas, specialty cocktails, wine, or beer), contracted directly through hotel catering

    • Bring wrapped candies, snacks, and water or other non-alcoholic beverages to give away at their table/cabana

    A New Fundraising Experience
Rather than a traditional silent auction, the evening will feature a raffle-style fundraiser.  Attendees will purchase sheets of raffle tickets and place them in boxes in front of the items they hope to win. This format allows for a more relaxed evening with extra time for dinner, conversation, and meaningful sponsor engagement.

    A Celebration with Style
The event will be held at a mid-century modern hotel, and we’re embracing the aesthetic. Sponsors are encouraged to lean into the theme—dress up, host games or interactive elements at your table, and help us turn the evening into a true celebration.

This year’s fundraiser may look a little different, but our goal remains the same: an unforgettable night that supports California archaeology and highlights the generosity and creativity of our sponsors. We look forward to celebrating with you.
