Current Opportunity

Far Western is looking to immediately hire one or more Staff Archaeologists/Crew Chiefs for full-time positions working on transmission and utility corridor projects in the Great Basin staging out of either our Henderson or Carson City Branches.

 

Compensation

 

  • Competitive wage starting at $28/hr.
  • Per diem provided for non-local projects at GSA standard rates
  • Lodging and vehicles arranged by Far Western for non-local projects

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in anthropology/archaeology (or related field).
  • At least two years of full-time professional experience in cultural resource management.
  • At least six months of supervisory experience (i.e., crew chief) in the Great Basin with demonstrable crew leadership experience in Nevada or Utah.
  • Ability to be permitted on Nevada BLM Cultural Resources Use Permits.
  • Demonstrable CRM field experience (e.g., survey, pre-contact and historic-era site documentation/data collection, excavation, evaluation, and familiarity with common data collecting devices and hand-held tools).
    • Equivalent academic experience may be a substitute for CRM field experience.
  • Ability to adapt to varying data collection needs, detail-oriented attributes with attention to field methods, pace, and dynamic project needs.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to comfortably hike eight to ten miles a day for up to 10 consecutive days in rugged terrain and variable weather.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with co-workers, both verbally and in writing
  • Willingness to positively collaborate and interact with Native American representatives.
  • Willingness to camp overnight in remote locations, as needed.
  • Ability to follow guidelines in accordance with Far Western’s Safety Program and other Far Western protocols, Covid-19 and otherwise.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently permitted statewide for pre-contact and historic resources in Nevada.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relevant to cultural resources.
  • Demonstrable technical report writing skills and the ability to provide examples.
  • Actively participates in regional archaeological or historic preservation research.
