The Assistant State Archeologist Exam is now available! Mail your application by December 10!
By successfully completing the exam you will have up to 12 months of eligibility to apply for any Assistant State Archeologist openings throughout California State Parks!
You can earn up to $5,829 per month and receive on-the-job training!

How You’ll Make an Impact
Help protect California’s rich cultural history! The Assistant State Archeologist is an entry-level position. Duties include preparing cultural resource inventory documents and managing archeology projects. As your skills develop, you will participate in the collection, preservation, and resource management of archeological material and properties through site surveys and archeological excavation projects!

The minimum qualifications include major coursework in archeology or anthropology and equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. If you are currently a senior studying archeology or anthropology, you are eligible to apply for this exam!
About the Exam
Completing this exam is a requirement to become a California State Parks Assistant State Archeologist.
The exam is weighted 100% on a training and experience evaluation. Evaluation will be based on your knowledge, skills, and ability, as demonstrated by your education/experience.
If you require assistance or alternative testing arrangements due to a disability, please contact the testing department listed on the exam bulletin.
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for the Veteran’s Preference Benefit! You can receive Rank 1 with a passing score of 70% or better.
