Archeological Project Leader (Seasonal) | California State Parks, Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area

The reporting location for this position is Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA).  This position will work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) at Ocotillo Wells SVRA located within the Ocotillo Wells District. 

The Archeological Project Leader will work with the Resources Department to take a leadership role while conducting surveys for historic and prehistoric cultural resources and monitoring for construction projects around the park. The successful applicant will properly gather, input, and analyze data using ESRI Collector/Field Maps, ArcGIS Online, and ArcPro. Project Leader will additionally complete the ensuing paperwork including site and isolate records (DPR 523), monitoring and survey reports, and other reports and spreadsheets as necessary. The Project Leader must be able to safely operate various 4WD vehicles and tools associated with the above tasks. Applicant must be able to work safely in high heat, desert environments, and remote conditions.

State housing may be available. This position requires a valid Class “C” driver’s license. The season is anticipated to run from mid-October through May; multiple positions are available. The pay is $17.02-$20.90 per hour depending on experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Most applicants qualify with two years of experience doing research and field work in archeology, including site survey, excavation, museum laboratory, and exhibit work (graduate work may be subbed) AND education equivalent to graduation from college (or additional experience).
