The SCA and the San Luis Obispo County Archaeological Society (SLOCAS) are proud to collaborate on the 2017 Southern Data Sharing meeting in San Luis Obispo, California. The SLOCAS Headquarter building is located between Madera Avenue and Colusa Avenue and O’Connor Way within the open daily-access portion of the California National Guard installation, Camp San Luis Obispo. Directions: From Highway 1, exit Hollister Road at the red light. Proceed south on Hollister Road past the Cuesta College sports fields and then turn right on Colusa Avenue. Turn left on O’Connor Way and Building 1522 will be the second building on the right-hand side.

Participants are welcome to arrive Friday afternoon anytime after 3 pm, October 20th for group camping at El Chorro Regional Park Campground (http://slocountyparks.org/camp/el-chorro/) or see the update below for Cal Poly event. We have space for 40 campers, but campers will need to carpool, as there is only room for 10 vehicles. Additional vehicles over 10 will require separate arrangement ahead of time. The cost of camping is covered by the SCA data share meeting, and thus free for all that attend the meeting.  For those that prefer indoor accommodations, there are many hotels available in the two closest communities of San Luis Obispo or Morro Bay.

We still have openings available for presentations! Presentations will begin on Saturday morning, October 21st at 9 am in the presentation room at SLOCAS headquarters. Coffee/tea and pastries with be provided in the morning, as well as a catered lunch in the afternoon.  After the presentations, we will head over to Hollister Adobe (a few blocks away) and enjoy a tour of the grounds of the adobe followed by a campfire and potluck BBQ at El Chorro Regional Park Camp Ground. Please bring a side dish or beverage to share at the BBQ. Main course, condiments, tableware, and dessert will be provided.

Sunday morning, we will have a field trip opportunity – learning about the dynamic geology of the Chorro Valley and visiting a raw materials procurement location within the park boundary. Ethan Bertrando, a local archaeologist, will lead this guided field trip. There is no limit to the number of participants. Please note that the field trip will require hiking on a designated trial for approximately 2 miles where you could be exposed to poison oak, rattlesnakes, slips and trips, and other outdoor hazards. Please bring hiking boots or rugged shoes and dress in layers for comfort.

If you are interested in presenting a paper, confirming camping, volunteering to help at the event, or signing up for the field trip please contact Sarah Nicchitta, SCA Southern Vice President, at SNicchitta@nullAlbionEnvironmental.com.
