2023 Governor’s Historic Preservation Awards

The Office of Historic Preservation is now accepting nominations for the 2023 Governor’s Historic Preservation Awards, and we would like to invite the SCA community to nominate any projects or individuals whose work exemplifies the best in preserving, protecting, documenting, and educating about California’s archaeological and cultural heritage!  Nomination forms and instructions are available via our Governor’s Historic Preservation Awards page: https://ohp.parks.ca.gov/governorsawardsDeadline for nominations: May 8, 2023.

This is California’s only state-sponsored awards program, and provides an opportunity to recognize local, often grassroots efforts to preserve the places, stories, and cultural traditions of our collective California heritage. Archaeology related projects have been among the award recipients in previous years, including among others, the Manzanar Community Archeology Program in 2019, and Restoration of Tstyiwi on the Pecho Coast in 2018. A list and outline of previous awardees can be viewed on our Past Award Recipients page: https://ohp.parks.ca.gov/pastawards
