2013 Archaeology Month poster design contest!
The SCA is looking for a winning design for 2013′s Archaeology Month poster. California finished third in last year’s SAA competition for 2010-2011 best archaeology month poster, and second the year before, so our posters are getting national recognition. There are two possible themes for 2013 “Hidden Landscapes” or “Archaeology a Collaborative Endeavor” The “Hidden Landscapes” theme might include imagined scenes of prehistory such as San Francisco Bay or the Sacramento Delta circa 7000-6000 BP, or photographs or artistic renderings of modern landscapes/landmarks that include the traditional Native Californian name and the modern name. For instance, Mt. Bally in Shasta County derives its name from the Wintun boli meaning spirit. The other theme emphasizes the joining of archaeologists, scientists from other disciplines, and Native Californians in a collaborative effort to preserve California’s cultural heritage.
